Our Wednesday small group is made up of a diverse group of individuals, all coming from different backgrounds (I realize this can be said of most groups of people, but in the case of our group, I would say there are fewer commonalities and more differences than the average group).
This past week, we were reading through James 1:19-27. A huge discussion came out of these words. You can boil it down to: what does it mean to be a hearer of the word and what does it mean to be a doer of the word.
I thought I would share some thoughts that were brought up and discussed:
- In being a "doer", motive is a key. It's not sufficient to just "do," because James says "do." Genuine "doing" come from a pure motivation from within.
- "Hearers" aren't "followers," they are in it for the look (verse 23-24).
- "Followers" are "doers."
- When "hearers" claim to be "followers," "religion" becomes tainted to "outsiders."
These are just some thoughts that were discussed at our small group at UNF. If you are interested in being a part of a small group, check out happenings section of the CCW website.
